OVERVIEW OF hack FOR CITIES 2025
Hack For Cities 2025, previously Code for Cities, is the 5th edition of SMU Smart City Society's annual hackathon. The hackathon aims to expose participants to real-life industry problems in the field of smart cities and technologies that can be used to advance the vision of smart cities. In addition, participants stand a chance to network with industry professionals and win cash prizes and internship opportunities with our participating industry partners.

Organised in collaboration with IBM Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Hack of Cities's 2023 theme is "AI for Citizen-Centric Smart Cities". Participants will explore and ideate on how to integrate citizen-first solutions in the smart cities space with Artificial Intelligence.​
FORMAT & DELIVERABLES
Hack For Cities 2025 was held in a hybrid format, with a kick-off on 9th January 2025 and first-round submissions ending 12th January 2025. Second-round (finalist) teams presented to a judging panel physically at SMU on 22nd January 2025, and together with selected non-finalists, have the opportunity to attend a networking session with Smart City and AI domain experts.

Teams had to submit a 2 page solution write-up, Github Link and Video Demonstration

Solution write-ups were to be submitted by 12th January, 2025, 2200
ROUND 1

The top 10 solution write-ups were be shortlisted and announced on our telegram channel. Shortlisted teams would then proceed to convert and refine their solution write-up into a solution pitch.

Participants were be given 10 minutes to pitch their solution to our judging panel on the 22nd January 2025, 1400. The winners will be selected towards the end of the solution pitch session.

Finalist teams will also guaranteed access to the same-day Smart City networking event with industry professionals, Smart City and AI industry experts. Eligible finalists will also have pathways to internships at IBM & IMDA!
